MANILA, Philippines-Zachary Castro, Anna Kei Fernandez and Felix Saludar lead a bumper crop of young Filipinos vying in the FCG Callaway World Junior golf championship slated July 17-19 in California in the United States.
Castro and Miko Granada will be the country’s representatives in the boys’ centerpiece 15-18 division, Fernandez and Minghui Li will see action in the girls’ side, while Saludar and Gabriel See will campaign in the 13-14 division for boys.
Also making it to the FCG are Winter Serapio and Maurysse Abalos in the girls’ 7-8; Lucas de Guzman and Harvey Hernandez in the boys’ 7-8; Rafella Batican and Chime Cuenca in the girls’ 9-10; Jared Saban and Vito Sarines in the boys side; Wirada Tawinsang and Lisa Sarines in 11-12 girls, and Ralph Batican and Jacob Gomez in 11-12 boys and Chonpasa Tawinsang and Rafa Anciano in 13-14 girls.
Saludar, a 13-year-old son of veteran broadcaster Ely, posted a 54-hole 257 in the qualifying series at Eagle Ridge recently, shooting a final round 11-over-par 83 to win by nine shots over See.
All those going to the FCG are 1-2 in their respective divisions.
